The Wounded Healer film goes behind the scenes of a highly dramatic and acclaimed lecture given worldwide by Dr Ahmed Hankir. A passionate advocate for those living with mental health conditions, Hankir brings profound insights from his own journey from homeless 'service user' under psychological distress, triggered by war in his country of origin, to recipient of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Foundation Doctor of the Year Award. 

Through interviews, performance and reflection, the film explores the roles of doctor and patient and the compassionate union of the two.
The Wounded Healer film takes Hankir's message to a wider audience, raising awareness and championing those most deserving of support and respect.

The film is produced and directed by Sal Anderson with funding from the University of the Arts London.

Synopsis

'Stigma is killing people' Dr Ahmed Hankir says in his passionate crusade fighting for those with mental health issues.

 

Through his personal journey as both 'the wounded' and 'the healer' the film takes us into the subjective experience of 'The Wounded Healer' and Hankir's moving campaign to fight stigma.

Dr Hankir's story highlights the urgent need to change the way we respond to mental heath.
