The Wounded Healer performance has being delivered to over 50,000 people worldwide. The enthusiastic response is testament to the power of the performing arts and storytelling to educate the public and empower those who experience psychological distress.

The Wounded Healer film uses Dr Hankir's moving story to challenge preconceptions and prejudices about mental health and how we respond and react to one of the most important issues of today.

Story

The Wounded Healer film was inspired by a theatrical performance of the same title delivered by Dr Ahmed Hankir - a British doctor with first-hand experience of psychological distress.

The aim of the Wounded Healer performance is to engage, enthuse and educate audiences worldwide, to debunk myths, breakdown stigma and encourage care-seeking. The performance portrays Dr Hankir's extraordinary journey of recovery from homeless and impoverished 'service-user' to recipient of the Royal College of Psychiatrists Foundation Doctor of the Year Award.

Dr Hankir was inspired by his mentor Dr Rashid Zaman to conceive the Wounded Healer performance after they presented a paper at the 2013 International Conference on Mental Health in Cambridge University for which Dr Hankir received the first-prize for his presentation.

The Film - Directed by Sal Anderson
